I guess folks are figuring if you can’t stem the 50% divorce rate, you might as well make it easier for people to get “divorced.” A proposed law in Mexico City is making it easier to dissolve the marriage if things don’t work out.

Mexico City lawmakers want to help newlyweds avoid the hassle of divorce by giving them an easy exit strategy: temporary marriage licenses.

Leftists in the city’s assembly — who have already riled conservatives by legalizing  gay marriage  – proposed a reform to the civil code this week that would allow couples to decide on the length of their commitment, opting out of a lifetime.

The minimum marriage contract would be for two years and could be renewed if the couple stays happy. The contracts would include provisions on how children and property would be handled if the couple splits.

“The proposal is, when the two-year period is up, if the relationship is not stable or harmonious, the contract simply ends,” said  Leonel Luna, the Mexico City assemblyman who co-authored the bill.

“You wouldn’t have to go through the tortuous process of divorce,” said Luna, from the leftist  Party of the Democratic Revolution, which has the most seats in the 66-member chamber.

Luna says the proposed law is gaining support and he expects a vote by the end of this year.

So why get married to begin with? The original vows say for BETTER or for WORSE in sickness and in health, til DEATH do us PART…HELLO ! If you can’t deal with the worst, save yourself sometime at the alter and say so LOL. Another example of America’s fast food instant gratification culture. Smh

    In 2 years most people
haven’t even become the best husband or wife they could be. It takes
more than 2 years to really get into the groove of your marriage.

HAHAHAHAHA! THIS IS DUMB BUT NOT SURPRISING. PEOPLE ARE SO SICK. WOMEN WHO LOVE THE LATEST WEDDING FASHION WILL LOVE THIS IDEA. BEAUTIFUL WEDDING IN A $5,000 DRESS THEN A DREAM, ONCE IN A LIFETIME HONEYMOON, THEN DO IT ALL AGAIN WITH SOMEONE ELSE IN A COUPLE OF YEARS, LOL! THIS WORLD OF OURS IS HEADED FOR HELL IN A HAND BASKET.

That’s just comical. Two years of marriage with an option to renew? Get out of here. Don’t bother getting married. It’s not a “test it to see if you like it” type of deal.

This is really sad. People want things so easy these days with no commitment required. That’s what marriage is: a COMMITMENT. Not a ‘let me try this and see if I like it; type of thing.

    God bless us all.

This world has no respect for God and His order for life. But with great mercy and gentle love, He continues to allow us free will, why do we continue to take advantage and do things our way? It is written, that WE are all with out excuse that GOD exist and HIS word is life and truth.  I am constantly reminded of how fractured this world is but how Great and BIG Gods patients and love is for us. I respect the Lords foundation of marriage and will continue to seek HIS face to show me how to be the wife I need to be for my husband, its hard but Im willing. Some life lessons are learned in marriage believe it or not, bc it will bring things out of you that you never thought would be there. But who ever choose this is allow to but it doesn’t make it right bc it is not founded on the word of the Lord. Everyone is not called to marriage, so the fantasy is always temptings for people to do so…..

2 year trial? I thought that was called dating?!?!!! If your idea of marriage is a 2 year trial, then it’s not a marriage.

So to all those that say this is stupid, etc. etc.. I guess you’re Ok with long, ugly, drawn out divorces?  At some point we have to face the fact the society and the world we live in is changing, just like it’s has changed since the days of Moses. This is no more stupid as a Prenuptial  Agreement, which at one time was laughed at and only  for the rich and famous now I know cats with basic 9 to 5′s  seriously talking about getting a prenup.. and the sad thing is…. in today’s time they probably need it! Although I’m personally not down with this “trial-period” nor the prenup. I can see how  it would be a must and work for some people.
