Steel Magnolias

Ok, so yes I am a little late with the news. I have been busy this week and not exactly up on my current events. But last night, I happened to be watching Lifetime and about fell out of my seat when I saw the commercial for Steel Magnolias.

I LOVED the original movie. It’s one of those movies that I could watch over and over again….and cry and laugh..and cry some more. But when I saw that the new version was being made with an all African American cast with many of my favorite actresses, I was bubbling over with excitement.  Here is a synopsis of the movie:

“In Lifetime’s contemporary version of the beloved stage play and 1989 film,  “Steel Magnolias”  chronicles the lives and friendship of six women in Louisiana. Supporting each other through their triumphs and tragedies, they congregate at Truvy’s beauty shop to ponder the mysteries of life and death, husbands and children – and hair and nails – all the important topics that truly unite and celebrate women.”

So get your DVRs set, put the kids in bed, and get ready for the premiere at 9 pm ET this Sunday, October 7 on Lifetime. You will not want to miss this remake that stars: Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott, Alfre Woodard, Adepero Oduye, and Condola Rashad. (Side note: Doesn’t this seem like a good movie for Loretta Devine?)

BMWK – Check out the trailer below and let us know if you plan on watching. Did you see and like the original? What do you think of them remaking it with an all African American Cast?

This is the type of movie that you want to come on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. So you can just have your favorite snack and enjoy! I could watch it many times over. And I am hoping that I will love this remake too.

Wow, a viewing party sounds fun. I too am excited about watching the Steel Magnolia remake and the child abduction movie coming on Saturday has Keke Palmer, from Akelah and the Bee in it and is based on a true story, so it sounds interesting.

I would never have thought of a “Steel Magnolias” party that sounds like a great idea. I love the original movie, and is in my top ten favorite movies of all times. I told my co-worker at DISH about the remake, and we are both really excited to see this. Unfortunately, I have a new work schedule and will miss the premiere, but my Hopper is set to record this movie when it airs. There is a ton of DVR space so while Im recording this my boyfriend can record his football games. I cannot wait to see this, and I hope Lifetime turns this into a mini-series.

Looking forward to this remake with much anticipation. I, too, loved the original make and anticipate the prospective that an all black cast offers and already successful treatment.
