Me and TheMom met through a mutual friend. We were introduced at one point during a gathering at her friends house but at the time she wasn't available. Fast forward a few years and I was out on the town with a buddy. Our mutual friend showed up at the same place with her girls in tow including TheMom. We striked up some convo and I was coming to her town soon on business travel so we scheduled a date. The rest is history.

I actually met my husband in 1999 in an Internet chat room! That was back before eHarmony and all those other sites that said meeting people online was okay.
For a long time I was worried that people would think I was a total wierdo, having met my husband online. However, since then times have really changed, and it's not such a big deal. In December, we'll be married for 8 years, and I couldn't be happier. And yes, we are black and married (no kids yet)!

Cheri I always think about that. I know people come from that it's so weird angle but is it really? Especially nowadays. When you meet someone in the club you don't know anything about them other than how they look so I think that's the only difference (if the person is telling the truth about that or not). Everything else, a person that you meet face to face can lie about too.

I met my husband online as well. My sister told me that she knew some woman that met their husband on Match.com and that she was going to try it. I was a little skeptical and told her not to, but after checking out the site me and my friend decided to try it too.
Me and my husband started e-mailing and talking to each other in Nov. 03, we met face to face in Jan o4, got engaged in Nov. o4, and married in June 06. I'm so glad that I did it, but very few people know how we met just a few close friends. My family doesn't know, and I know my sister would be pissed becasue she never met anyone online and still isn't married.

I met my husband at a mutual friend's birthday party in 1996 although we attended the same undergrad together...we did not really hang in the same circles. We got engaged in 1999 and have been happily married since 2000.

@TheDad:
Given the advances in technology, I certainly think that meeting online is a viable option that has some advantages over meeting at a club. First, you get to actually know the person first. the days are gone when everyone online is a wierdo, so I encourage those people who are looking for love to think about all of the options available. Certainly online chat rooms/message boards are one way...
@JMM:
Initially I didn't reveal to my family how I met my husband either. For some reason I just wasn't comfortable doing this. One the other hand my husband (who doesn't really care what people think) never felt the need to conceal how we met. If your feel comfortable now, this may open up a new option that your sister hadn't considered for finding love. She might feel more comfortable knowing thatyou met your husband that way...

Can I still tell my story even though I'm not married(yet)?
I met my fiancé on myspace. I was just up there and he sent me a message. We talked back and forth both on there and on the phone and met face to face either the same week or a week later. He was extremely straight forward with me about EVERYTHING and I too was the same with him. He's the sweetest guy and I was kind of skeptical about it but it turned out to be great. We met in October 2006, started dating November 2006, moved in together November 2007, he proposed March of this year and our wedding is September 2009. Neither of us really tell too many people that we met on myspace. When I first met him I met his family too! It was really nice and different.

Wow, I see a pattern here. Ok you guys just gave me my next post on you guessed it... online dating. I'm curious to see what all of our readers think about it. It can't be the same reaction to it that there was say 5 years ago can there be?

I met my husband on a double date. My college roommate wanted to me to accompany her on a date with a guy she met, but didn't want to go alone. She said he had a best friend(husband)that would go along as well. I really wasn't in the mood for being out that night, but after her pleading, I decided to go. Well, at first we didn't like each other, but after a few hours of talking openly about many topics, we found we had so much in common. I knew that night in a matter of hours he would be my husband. I know it sounds corny, but I did. It was a strong feeling. He also felt the same way. A few days later, he asked me to be his girlfriend, a few months later...we were engaged, a couple of years later...married. We've been going strong for 15 years!

My husband and I met on Black Planet...!!
He sent a corny message commenting on one of my pictures...very subtle...so much that I wouldn't even call it flirting...:)
Nobody ever believes us when we tell them...they always think we made it up. But it's very true...we met almost 5 years ago and have been married for 2 years.

I was introduced to my husband, a Congero/Percussionist, by a talented musician. I met Garry at an audition for a film. I told him I was looking for a Congero to back up my one woman show. My manager and I went to my future husband's house to audition him. The rest is history. Yusef and I were married on July 30, 1991. We have had our ups and downs in almost 18 years of marriage. We suffered three miscarriages and could not conceive together. Yet, we share the children we have by previous relationships (all are grown now). This is an exciting time for us! We love our children and grandchildren. Everyone visits us often and we love it, especially the grands! Yet, when we are alone, we enjoy our time together. We are still performing together to this day. He is still the only one who makes my heart flutter!

My husband and I met on the internet. We lived across the country from each other and had no intentions of being anything other than friends. We became best friends. Fast forward 7 years, we are still best friends and now significant others.
